When casting this cantrip the cleric must work with a willing subject who must attempt to remain calm and still for the entire duration of the casting. The purpose of Ameliorate Distress is to alleviate emotional suffering in a variety of presenting maladaptive forms such as; anxiety, distress, psychosomatic pain, grief, trauma, loneliness, heartache, jealousy, or any other emotional state the subject desires treatment for.
Typically, the practitioner will engage in a subject in a dialogue based therapy allowing them to explain the source and nature of their emotional malady. The practitioner will facilitate the subject in dealing with their distress through a variety of physical manipulations or vocal affirmations at the end of the therapy session. The precise details of the somatic and vocal components of the spell vary between practitioners and each subject.
Some exclusive bordellos are known to provide Ameliorate Distress therapies that involve quite intimate and vigorous ritualised somatic activities for the subject.
The subject will experience significantly reduced symptoms and severity of distress following the casting of Ameliorate Distress for several days. Repeated application of the Ameliorate Distress therapy will result in longer and longer periods of relief from emotional distress. It is often the case that the practitioner will provide the subject with affirmations or other meditative mantra and exercises to practice between repeated therapies.
Usually the source of distress or maladaptive emotional state can be almost completely resolved with 10 therapies spread out over a period of 90 days.
