With this cantrip the practitioner is able to conjure up simple material spell components which instantly appear, either in the practitioner’s hand or levitating nearby within easy reach. The conjured material component(s) are usually referred to as the materius. After conjuring the materius to a levitating space nearby, if the caster wishes to move they will need to take it in hand, otherwise the Constituent Prestidigitation effect is wasted and the materius is lost.

The materius will be conjured in one of two ways. The first and simplest form of the conjuration occurs if the materius is real matter located on the caster’s person, or anywhere within 5 feet of the caster. In this case the materius is spatially relocated “to hand”. This first and simplest form of the conjuration is the default modality of the spell. The second and more complex form of the conjuration occurs when the matierius must be conjured from aether (effectively from nothing). In this case the materius will function like its normal matter counterpart for a maximum duration of 1 minute.

If the materius has not been consumed in spell casting after 1 minute it will be spatially relocated back to whence it came (back to nothing in the case of materius comprised of aether).

Constituent Prestidigitation is known for being a little unpredictable and occasionally fails when the materius needs to be conjured from aether. Typically, failure rates result about 1% to 9% of the time. Subject to DMs discretion, higher rates of failure (up to 100%) are common when the materius is more obscure, valuable, or difficult to obtain. Pearls, gemstones and some crystals are notoriously problematic materius to conjure from aether.
