You create a massive block of subzero-temperature ice in the shape of a closed fist, then hurl it at a point you choose within range. Each creature in a 20-foot cube centered on that point must make a Dexterity saving throw. A target takes 3d6 bludgeoning damage and 4d4 cold damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
On a failed save, a Large or smaller creature is also restrained by a hardening crystal of ice. A creature can make a Strength (Athletics) check as an action, freeing itself or a creature within reach from the ice on a success. An ice crystal has AC 15 and hit points equal to your spell save DC, and it is immune to cold, poison, and psychic damage and vulnerable to fire and bludgeoning damage.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the bludgeoning and cold damage each increase by 1d6 and 1d4, respectively, for each slot level above 3rd. Additionally, the hit points of the hardening ice crystals each increase by 4 for each slot level above 3rd.
