You conjure a ravenous horde of spectral ravens. When you cast this spell, designate one target within 60 feet. That target then makes a Dexterity saving throw as the ravens are set upon them, pecking and tearing with wild abandon. On a failure, they take 4d8 Piercing damage and are forced to move 10 feet in a direction of your choosing as they attempt to flee from the ravens rending the flesh from their bones. On a success, they take half damage and do not have to move. In addition, at the beginning of each of their turns, the target takes an additional 1d8 Piercing damage as the ravens continue their assault.
If the target is brought to 0 hit points while this spell is in effect, the ravens do not dissipate. Instead, if another creature steps within 10 feet of the fallen target you can, as a reaction, cause the ravens to swarm the new target. They do not make a Dexterity saving throw, instead they simply take 1d8 Piercing damage at the beginning of each of their turns.
At Higher Levels. If you cast this spell using a spell slot of 6th level or higher, the damage on initial cast increases by 1d8 for each level of spell above 5th.
