Using magical energy, you attempt to choke the life out of a creature. As an action, you choose a single target you can see within range and that creature has to make a Constitution saving throw. On a failure, the creature begins to choke, taking 2d4 necrotic damage. The creature takes an additional 1d4 necrotic damage at the start of each of their turns. They may repeat the saving throw at the end of each of their turns, ending the effect on a success.
While choking, all attacks against the creature gain a bonus equal to your spellcasting modifier, and the creature's own attacks have a penalty equal to your spellcasting modifier. Furthermore, the creature's speed is halved and they cannot properly speak, unable to cast spells requiring verbal components.
If the creature is still affected by the spell after a number of rounds equal to their Constitution modifier +5 has passed, they fall unconscious.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, both the initial and continuous damage of this spell increase by 1d4 for each slot level above 2nd.
