You open a portal pulling an elder elemental from its native plane to an unoccupied space you can see within range. Which creature is dependent on the material used: Phoenix for ruby, Leviathan for sapphire, Zaratan for emerald, and Elder Tempest for diamond. The elder elemental disappears when it drops to 0 hit points or when the spell ends.
The elder elemental does not prioritize targeting you and your companions for the duration. Roll initiative for the elder elemental, which has its own turns. It attacks any hostile creatures to you, ignoring any verbal commands. If no hostile creatures are present, the elder elemental targets you and your companions.
If your concentration is broken, the elder elemental doesn't disappear. Instead, it treats all creatures as hostile. An elder elemental disappears one hour after you summon it or you can attempt to dismiss it and send it back to its native plane using an action to do an ability check using your spellcasting modifier against a DC of 19.
If an attempt was made to forcibly bend the conjured elder elemental under the will of a creature, such as the Planar Binding spell, the attempt fails. The elder elemental will pursue and attack you and your companions to the best of their ability and will remain in the current plane for 1 hour and can't be dismissed by you.
