You choose one creature that you can see within range and attempt to examine and analyze them in detail. The creature you are targeting must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failure, you delve into their mind, granting yourself the ability to gauge its strengths and weaknesses. You can learn one answer to one of the following questions:

  • Does the creature have any damage resistances? If so, name one resistance (DM's discretion).
  • Does the creature have any damage vulnerabilities? If so, name one vulnerability (DM's discretion).
  • Does the creature have any damage immunities? If so, name one immunity (DM's discretion).
  • Does the creature have any condition immunities? If so, name one immunity (DM's discretion).
  • Can the creature cast spells? If so, name a number equal to your spellcasting ability modifier (minimum of 1, DM's discretion).

When you cast the spell and the creature fails the saving throw, you must declare what question you want answered. The if you ask a question that doesn't have an answer (ie. no damage resistances), the DM can choose to either let the spell fail OR answer a secondary question.

At Higher Levels. As you upcast the spell, you're able to gain more information from a target. At level 3, you can ask two questions from the list. At level 5, you can ask three. At 7th, four, and at 9th, you can ask all five questions.
