You summon a Beast of challenge rating 9 or lower. It appears in an unoccupied space that you can see within range. The Beast disappears when it drops to 0 hit points or when the spell ends. The Beast is friendly to you and your companions for the duration. Roll initiative for the creature, which has its own turns. It obeys any verbal commands that you issue to it (no action required by you), as long as they don't violate its alignment. If you don't issue any commands to the Beast, it defends itself from hostile creatures but otherwise takes no actions. If your concentration is broken, the Beast doesn't disappear. Instead, you lose control of the Beast, it becomes hostile toward you and your companions, and it might attack. An uncontrolled Beast can't be dismissed by you, and it disappears 1 hour after you summoned it. The DM has the Beasts statistics.

Posted Oct 13, 2020Conceptually, I like it - however it's rather weak for an 8th level spell. Summon Greater Demon is a 4th level spell and is rather similar in what it tries to accomplish; that being summoning an ally to fight with you as long as you have control over it, and have to fight it when you lose control. I could definitely see it being a 5th or 6th level spell - since you are allowed a CR 9 creature, vs. SGD's CR 5. :)

Posted Oct 15, 2020Well all I did was look at the patterns of all summoning spells, Conjure Fey is a 6th level spell for a cr 6 and it has a casting time of 1 minute and you can lose control, Conjure Elemental is the same with it being a 5th level spell CR 5 elemental. This spell is one action, wich is really good for a Beast monster at that CR rating. The demon spell is probably one of the best conjure spells exept for the downfall of there being a save for the demon every turn. I basically scaled the CR to level and gave it a 8th level because 9th levels are just amazing and this spell didnt really fall under that. If I were to make this a 5th or 6th level spell I dont think anyone of my players would even dream about casting the other conjure spells of that level range.
