Deep within the Tomb of the Nine Gods lies an ancient scroll believed to have been written by Acererak's own hand. It contains an ancient spell that allows the cast to absorb the very life force of its victims.
When you cast this spell, the targeted creature must make a Constitution saving throw or be Restrained to that spot and take 1d8 necrotic damage. When the creature takes this damage, you are healed a number of hit points equal the damage the creature took. If you are on your maximum health, the healed hit points instead count as temporary hit points. The creature can retake the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, on a fail it takes another d8 necrotic damage and heals you the same amount, on a success your concentration breaks.
If your concentration breaks while casting this spell, you take the d8 necrotic damage instead and it heals the creature the same amount.
At Higher Level. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the damage increases by 1d8 for each slot level above 3rd.
