You choose a creature you can see within 30 feet and give it a mark of protection. When the marked creature would take damage by an attack, you can use your reaction to reduce the damage to 0 and gain your spell-casting modifier (min 1) as temporary hit points.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, reducing the damage of the target doesn't spend your reaction and the temporary hit points received increase by 1d4 for each slot level above 3rd.
