Once per turn, as an attack action you may throw any one melee weapon 5/15 (unless otherwise stated) at a target creature; if the attack both lands and successfully deals damage, and the weapon is within the caster's sight, the weapon returns to your hand at the beginning of their next turn, provided that your hand is still empty (or hands, in the case of a two-handed weapon). If the weapon fails to land, or otherwise is prevented from dealing damage (e.g. by a spell), the weapon clatters to the ground ten feet from the target in the direction determined by a d8 roll as follows (from the perspective of the thrower looking at the target:
Ten feet past the target, away from the thrower
Ten feet diagonal-right of the target, away from the thrower
Ten feet to the right of the target, perpendicular to the thrower
Ten feet to the diagonal right of the target, towards the thrower
Ten feet towards the thrower from the target. If this lands in the same square as the thrower, it lands five feet further, behind the thrower.
Ten feet diagonal left of the target, towards the thrower
Ten feet left of the target, perpendicular to the thrower
Ten feet diagonal-left of the target, away from the thrower
