This spell binds a book to a person and a place. The book is marked with a rune of binding (a faintly visible version of the caster's sigil) and will always return to its person first, its place second.

If the person that is the subject of the binding be dead of imprisoned on another plane, the book returns to its place. If the place this book is bound to is damaged, moved, or destroyed, the book will return as close as possible to its place.

If the book is destroyed by fire, water, frost, or any other means, it will return after a year and a day.

The specific way in which the book is returned to its owner or place is not specified. It could be returned by teleportation, messenger, owl, or by any other appropriate means. The universe conspires to put this book with its person and/or in its place.

No more than one publication, book, tome, title, treatise, opus, or manual may be bound to a person in this way. Each additional time this spell is cast by the caster, the current binding is broken and replaced by the new biding. Books unbound in this manner are "lost" if they were in the process of returning.

This spell has no effect on sentient books or books that qualify as wondrous items.

Some bards claim that this spell is the first spell, the very oldest spell in all of creation, and that it was wrought for the first magical apprentice.
