This spell creates a protective shield around one ally, defending them from harm. You can cast this spell as a reaction to reduce the triggering damage by 1d8(5) + your Spellcasting ability score bonus. 

At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the damage blocked increases by 1d8 per level.
