Uttering a dark incantation and touch a dead creature that has been dead for no more than a century, that didn't die of old age, and that isn't undead. You attempt to pull forth the soul of a corpse with whom you are familiar with. If the target's spirit isn't willing it must succeed on a wisdom saving throw or be bound back to the corpse. The creature has all the stats it had in life except now it's creature type is undead as well as it's usual creature type, if the corpse was missing any limbs and those limbs are not restored to the body at the time of casting the limbs remain severed. The creature must be of a challenge rating no higher than 6 and it's head must be intact. If the corpse is that of a player character, the player has advantage on the save to resist this effect.
On each of your turns, you can try to issue a verbal command to the corpse (no action required by you). You must make a Charisma (Deception, Intimidation, or Persuasion) check contested by the corpse's Wisdom (Insight) check (made at disadvantage if the corpse belonged to a player character). If your check succeeds, the corpse carries out your command — such as “attack my enemies,” “explore the room ahead,” or “bear this message to the queen” — until it completes the activity, at which point it returns to you to report having done so. If the check fails the corpse doesn't respond, instead it will move in a random direction up to it's movement speed decided by the Dungeon Master.
The blue sapphire becomes black as the soul of the creature is bound to it. The corpse of the creature is considered charmed and is at your command as long as this sapphire remains in your possession. If anyone aside from the caster of this spell comes into possession of the sapphire, they can attempt to command the corpse by making a Charisma (Deception, Intimidation, or Persuasion) check at disadvantage contested by the corpse's Wisdom (Insight) check.
If dispelled, the corpse must make a Wisdom Saving Throw against the casters spell save DC. On a failure, the corpse fall's lifeless and their soul is returned to the realm from which they were summoned. On a success, the corpse gains control over it's actions and is enraged by the caster. Roll initiative for the corpse, on each of it's turns it can only attempt to harm the caster or anyone who would stand in it's way. If the caster is killed the corpse returns to it's lifeless state and the soul returns to the realm from which it came, if the corpse is destroyed, the soul is trapped within the Ethereal Plane.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 6th level or higher, the challenge rating increases by 1 for each slot level above 5th. At 9th level when cast on a player corpse, the player does not have advantage on the saving throw to avoid being bound by the spell.
