Unconscious (...)

This spell sends one creature you touch into a magical slumber. Make a spell touch attack: on a hit, roll 8d8; if the total is greater than or equal to the maximum hit points of a creature hit with this spell, it falls unconscious until the spell ends, the sleeper takes damage, or someone uses an action to shake or slap the sleeper awake.

If the total is less than the creature's maximum hit points but greater than or equal to its current hit points, it instead acts as if it is suffering from 3 levels of exhaustion and is incapacitated. This exhaustion does not stack with other sources of exhaustion, nor can it reduce a target's level of exhaustion. In this case, the affected creature can either make a wisdom saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success, or be awoken by one of the previously mentioned means for awakening a creature unconscious from this spell.

Additionally, this spell can be cast as a ritual if the target is a creature already unconscious by the effects of this spell or Sleep. When cast this way, do not make a spell touch attack, it automatically succeeds. This spell will instead push the target deeper into sleep's embrace: the target creature will remain unconscious for 1 hour, unless awoken by one of the previously mentioned means for awakening a creature unconscious from this spell. If, as you are casting this spell as a ritual, the targeted creature's sleep effect would end, they remain unconscious unless the ritual is interrupted or ended for any reason other than a successful cast.

Undead and creatures immune to being charmed aren’t affected by this spell.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, roll an additional 2d8 for each slot level above 2nd.
