You call forth the soul of an individual who has died. This spell has two functions. Either summon a specific soul, or an unspecific soul that is chosen based on your desires. The soul must be free and willing.
Specific Soul
This variety of the spell takes one minute to cast.
Name: There are a few routes you can take to conjure the specific soul you wish to bring back from the afterlife. If you know the name of the person, simply say it while casting. After you have cast this spell with a name, you must roll a persuasion check to convince the soul to come back. The DC is determined by the DM.
Memory: Another way to conjure a soul, is a soul based on a memory. Either yours or someone else's. If you or somebody remembers an individual, but not their name, you can try to conjure the soul based on an image, or a description. After you have cast this spell with a memory, you must roll a persuasion check to convince the soul to come back. The DC is higher, opposed to having a specific name, determined by the DM.
Item: You can also attempt to conjure the soul of an individual, through an item in which they had a connection to. For instance, if you find a weapon in a cave and it is important enough to use a 7th level spell to learn more, simply command the soul of the previous owner to return. If the item has had two or more owners, you can request the soul of the first, second, third, etc. owner. To add on to that, if someone owns a weapon and you wish to summon the previous owner, simply relay that to the DM. After you have cast this spell with an item, you must roll a persuasion check to convince the soul to come back. The DC is much higher, opposed to having a specific name, determined by the DM.
The spell fades if you do not succeed on the persuasion check, or if the individual is not dead, or if the soul is not free. This is the RP option for this spell, so feel free to get creative. The specific soul you chose can not provide help in combat and does not require concentration. The soul can be dismissed at anytime automatically gets sent back to the afterlife after an hour.
Unspecific Soul
This variety of the spell takes an action to cast.
Once you take this spell, contact your DM. This will require a little work, but it will be worth it.
When you cast this spell, looking for an unspecific soul, you can conjure the soul of a random individual that fits the criteria you set. For instance, you are about to enter battle, and you need a cleric to survive, you can conjure one. For the sanity of the DM, you will be restricted to three different kinds of souls you can have access to.
For example, I want:
- A human barbarian, berserker subclass.
- A dragonborn sorcerer, draconic bloodline subclass.
- A gnome rogue, gloomstalker subclass.
Keep in mind, you can choose any race, subrace, class, and subclass, as long as the DM approves. After you have selected your three different souls, the DM will make character sheets for each of them. They can be no higher than 8th level, cannot multiclass, and can be balanced based on the DM's discretion and setting.
Once the soul is conjured, it follows your turn in initiative and is controlled by the player. Once it drops to 0 hit points, it disappears. If concentration is broken, the soul does whatever it can to return to the afterlife. Every turn, you can try to persuade the soul to keep fighting with you, the DC is determined by the DM. This is repeated every turn after concentration has been broken.
