You are surrounded by a poisonous miasma. You gain 5 temporary hit points for the duration.
So long as you have these hit points, you may use your bonus action to choose one creature within 10 feet of you to take a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save the creature is poisoned. A poisoned creature must end its turn more than 10 feet from you to end the effect, otherwise it must repeat the saving throw, ending the effect on a success or taking 1d6 poison damage on a failure.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the temporary hit points increase by 5, and the poison damage increases by 1d6, for each slot.

Posted Apr 4, 2022This is essentially an element-swapped armor of Agathys but with changes to how the damage component works to further disambiguate it from that spell. Instead of dealing automatic cold damage on a hit, this variant gives you the ability to pick a creature as a bonus action to take a CON save or become poisoned. The creature is then faced with a conundrum; to end the condition it must either move away (risking an attack of opportunity or even a combo with booming blade) or stay and hope it can succeed on another save as otherwise it will take poison damage. I think it makes for a fun spot to force an enemy into. I named the spell for Cathrys, the poisonous layer of Carceri, and home to the Talona, the Lady of Poison, in her Palace of Poison Tears, an ideal patron for a warlock picking this spell!
I have also released two other variants of armor of Agathys in armor of Kossuth (fire) and armor of Porphatys (acid).
