You magically heighten your sense of smell to pick out the scent of a particular metal and its alloys within 10 feet of you. When you cast the spell, you choose either iron and steel, or copper, brass and bronze. At the DM's discretion, you may be able to choose other, less precious metals, such as cobalt, nickel, magnesium, or zinc.
The scent is so acute that you can determine the exact source of the smell with unwavering accuracy. However, you are not able to determine the quality or mass of the detected source. While in effect, you are unable to smell anything other than your chosen metal.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a 2nd level spell slot or higher, the range of the spell increases by 5 feet for each spell slot level above 1st.
Casting the spell using a 3rd level spell slot or higher allows you to choose silver and electrum as your detected metal.
Casting the spell using a 5th level spell slot or higher allows you to choose gold and electrum, or platinum as your detected metal, and you are able to identify the largest source of detected metal within range.
Casting the spell using a 7th level spell slot or higher allows you to detect all sources of metal within range and to identify the exact nature of each source.
Casting the spell using a 9th level spell slot further infuses your sense of smell with your arcane intuition, enabling you to detect the presence of magical auras on metal items within range.
