You create a magical effect centred on your location which masks sound within the area. The radius of the effect is decided upon casting, up to a maximum of 15 feet, and can be adjusted at any time in the duration. Creatures within the chosen radius hear everything inside and out as normal. Any creatures listening from outside the radius cannot make out any words from within, instead hearing indistinct and unintelligible chatter.
A creature that succeeds in a perception check contesting your spell save DC will realise that they are hearing false sounds. The use of a spell such as comprehend languages would make the caster aware that what they are hearing is meaningless syllables rather than real language. In either case, they do not gain the ability to hear what is going on within.
