Damage/Effect
You make a ranged spell attack against a single creature to launch a bolt of green arcane energy at them, attempting to control their body by pushing their own soul out. You deal 4d6 necrotic damage. If you are to kill an enemy from this, you instead push their soul out of their body and now have control over it for 1d10 minutes. This ability has no effect on undead and constructs. When this time runs out, the body turns to dust. When casting this spell using a spell slot of 5th level or higher, you can target one additional enemy.
What does it mean-- game mechanic-wise-- to have control over a creature's soul?
i think it means we can move them/use their attacks?
You gain control over the body not the soul
So, am I reading this correctly?
You get control over ANY creature of ANY type and ANY CR with NO saving throw at NO concentration? Oh, and the creature has 0 hit points so technically cant be killed for 1d10 minutes? And its body (and thus you) have ALL of its abilities it have while alive?
If that is correct, it's really broken. Kill ancient dragon. Force feed goodberry. Blast with this. For 1d10 minutes you have unkillable pet dragon without concentration. That's beyond 9th level magic.
If my interpretations were correct, some suggestions to fix this:
- increase damage to 6d6
- works on humanoids only
- you create a ghoul, maybe a ghast, under your control for flat 10 minutes
- add concentration
Don't like concentration? Make 1 minute, Concentration free, and give the Soul a chance to make a Wisdom Saving Throw at the end of its turn to move back into the body, which ends the effect. The creature dies but body doe snot turn to dust. It has not been considered undead.
