Your mighty spellcraft tears the ground asunder with a deafening roar. A yawning rift forms, filled with black fire which draws to the Abyss those who have displeased you.

Choose an open area you can see within range. On a point in that area a rift opens. The rift is 60 feet deep, 10 feet wide, and up to 100 feet long. The rift does not open under a substantial permanent structure, such as a wizard's tower or castle wall, but a portable or less-substantial structure, such as a wagon or wooden house, can fall in. Objects not worn or carried fall into the pit when it appears under them.

A creature totally or partially in the rift's area when it appears must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a success, it falls prone on the edge of the rift. On a failed save, the creature falls into the pit, taking 6d6 falling damage. At the start of each of its turns thereafter, a creature which fell into the pit takes 6d6 fire damage and 6d6 necrotic damage from the black flames. This damage can't be reduced in any way.

At the start of your next turn after casting abyssal rift, black tentacles reach out to lash at creatures within 30 feet of the rift. When a creature enters the affected area for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there, the creature must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or take 3d6 fire damage, 3d6 necrotic damage, and be restrained by the tentacles until the spell ends. A creature that starts its turn in the area and is already restrained by the tentacles takes 3d6 fire damage and 3d6 necrotic damage. A creature restrained by the tentacles can use its action to make a Strength or Dexterity check (its choice) against your spell save DC. On a success, it frees itself.

When the spell ends, any creature and anything which remains in the rift's area is transported to a random location in the Abyss as though affected by a plane shift spell
