When you cast this spell, you create a Tiny spring-loaded metal jaw-trap staked to the ground within range. The trap's jaws when set have a radius of 12 inches (or ~30 cm for the metric crowd). If the trap is in an area where it might reasonably be hidden (in a puddle/shallow water, under leaves, in tall grass, amongst gnarly roots), a creature must succeed on a Wisdom (Perception) or Wisdom (Survival) check against your spell save DC to detect the trap. If the trap is not hidden, the creature has advantage on this check.
A creature that moves into the same 5 foot square as the trap must make a Dexterity Saving Throw against your spell save DC or spring the trap. A creature that is aware of the trap makes this save with advantage. Alternatively, a creature that is aware of the trap may safely move through the trap's space at no more than half their speed. A creature that fails the save takes 11 (2d10) piercing damage and is restrained until it or another creature spends and action and succeeds on either a Strength check or a Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) check to open the trap. A creature that is Huge or larger is not restrained. A creature that is aware of the trap and makes their save avoids triggering the trap, a creature that is not aware and makes their save triggers the trap.
As an action, you can reset a sprung trap with a successful DC 12 Strength check, or a DC 10 Dexterity (sleight of hand) check.
When you cast this spell again, any trap(s) previously created with this spell disappear.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell at higher levels you can create additional traps, the traps can deal more damage, and this spell's radius increases. When you cast this spell using a 3rd level spell slot or higher, the damage of the traps increases by 1d10 for every two levels of the spell slot above 1st. When you cast this spell using a 2nd level spell slot or higher, its range increases by 5 feet per level of the spell slot above 1st. When you cast this spell using a 2nd or 3rd level spell slot, you create two traps within range. When you cast this spell using a 4th or 5th level spell slot, you create up to 4 traps within range. When you cast this spell using a 6th or 7th level spell slot you create up to 7 traps within range. When you cast this spell using an 8th or 9th level spell slot, you create up to 13 traps within range.
