You seal an agreement between two or more willing creatures with an oath in the name of a deity chosen by the caster, using a symbol or token of that deity to invoke it to watch over this oath and punish any violation. During the ritual, the caster states the content of the oath, the consequences of breaking it and the conditions to fulfill the oath to its end if any. All participants then pledges to follow this oath and accept the consequences for breaking it. The caster may take part in pledging this oath or be a neutral person only responsible for holding the ritual. The spell fails if any of the participants changes his mind thus becoming unwilling before the ritual is finished, if the ritual is interrupted or if the invoked deity disapproves the oath.
If any of the sworn breaks the oath, they are struck by the invoked deity with the bestow curse spell. If any of the sworn fullfills his part of the oath to its end, the oath is lifted for that creature no longer affecting it. The curse effect of binding oath can’t be dismissed by dispel magic, but it can be removed with dispel evil and good, remove curse, or wish. Remove curse functions only if the spell slot used to cast it is equal to or higher than the spell slot used to cast binding oath. All sworns are immediately aware if the oath is fullfilled, broken or forcefully lifted by any other of the sworns, but they know no other details. Depending on the nature of the oath, one creature’s breaking or fullfilling it may or may not invalidate or fulfill the oath for the other targets. If the oath is completely broken or fullfilled, the spell ends for every affected creature, but curse effects already bestowed remain until dispelled.
