Unique to the area of Cleaverot in Karde. Cannot be cast elsewhere as this spell taps into the stagnant magic of an ancient civilisation located where Cleaverot now resides.

Morkane Rot is a type of decay which can affect discarded magic items. This rot occurs due to the background Arcane energy which surrounds the area of Cleaverot, eventually causing the complete transformation of a magic item into a creature which represents how it was treated throughout it's time on Karde. This process happens naturally, over a period of approximately 150 years. During this time the magic item must have been left abandoned with no creature interaction. In these conditions the item may transform into a sometimes demonic, sometimes saintly creature - depending on where it was left. If it was thrown into a river, it will grow into a creature hellbent on revenge. If it was left on a pedestal in a household when its owner died, it may transform into a tranquil creature which simply aims to give knowledge.

This spell accelerates this process, transforming a magic item into a creature based on how it's life has been spent thus far. The result of this transformation can be unpredictable if the history of the item is unknown, and as such the creature created may pose a threat to the party rather than help them. Despite this, practitioners of Morkanocraft will sometimes be able to predict the outcome of a magic item being exposed to the Morkane Rot. If this creature is killed, it returns to it's magic item form and, if the item requires attunement, is instantly attuned to the creature which dealt the final blow - removing it's oldest attuned item if all slots are full. This magic item may have additional effects, such as the ability to talk to it's user. If the spell ends before the creature is reduced to 0 hit points, the creature returns to it's magic item form and falls to the floor.

The nature of the creature's transformation depends on DM discretion. It may resemble the magic item it once was, or it may become a completely unique and demonic creature. This all depends on how the item was treated in life. You have no control over the creature, and as such it acts of it's own accord - although you can attempt to convince it to join your side as you would with any creature.

When casting this spell, roll a percentile die. if you roll equal to or lower than 50 ( +10 for each additional level of the spell slot used to cast this spell above slot level 5) then the spell succeeds. If you roll above this value, it fails, and if you roll 90 or higher then the spell fails and the magic item is destroyed.

* - (A magic item which is not being worn or carried and a shapeshifting creature's heart.)
