You conjure up a torrent of boiling mud that rises from an area within range, covering the ground in a 10-foot square centered on a point within range . Each creature in that area when the spell is cast must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 4d8 fire damage and is restrained by the mud. The mud then bursts forth from the affected creatures causing any creature within 5 feet of them to make a Dexterity saving throw or take 2d8 fire damage. This damage cannot be dealt to creatures who already failed the initial saving throw.
On a successful save, a creature takes no damage and isn’t restrained.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 5th level or higher, both the initial and secondary damage increases by 1d8 for each slot level above 4th.
