Ball O' Lightning (tf2)

Hold out your hand and say "Imputum Fulumenus" to cast. From your chosen hand, a 10x10x10ft spherical ball of lightning will be summoned forth, traveling at a constant speed of 10ft/s in any of the 8 cardinal directions you send it (i.e. north, northeast, east, etc.). The ball of lightning will bounce off walls and last for 6 seconds, sending it a total distance of 60ft. The ball will dissipate if contact with at least 5 cubic feet of water is made. If an enemy is within the projected path of the ball, then they may be caught by it and transported along its path. 

 

If they're within the first 5ft of the path, they will always be caught by the ball. If they are within the next 20ft, they must fail a dexterity saving throw to be caught. If within the last 35ft of the path, they make the throw with advantage. They make these rolls when the spell is cast. If they are caught, they must take 1d8 lightning damage for every 5ft that the ball is projected to move from the location that they were caught at, meaning a maximum of 12d8. They make the damage rolls at the end of the spell duration. During the turns of those caught, they may only make a constitution saving throw. If they pass they only take half as much damage from the ball of lightning.

 

Dispelling the magic will not work as this is electricity not magic, but countering the spell will because it is magic that creates the ball. If a player manages to get 5 feet of water in contact with the ball, the ball will stop wherever it will make contact with the water, thus lessening the damage calculations. At the end of the spell, all entities caught by the ball will be dropped where the path ends.

 

At higher levels, add an additional 1d8 lightning damage per every 5ft the ball has travelled per spell level above 7th that this spell is cast at.
