As you toss an article of clothing from your head to the ground, a small thump is followed by a surge of sand from under your feet. Until it is dispelled by other magical or physical means, a layer of 2 foot deep sand appears in a 60 foot radius around the caster and is considered difficult terrain. Every creature in the radius has disadvantage on all Dexterity checks but not Dexterity skill checks.
The spell supposedly came into being when a cowardly magician was leaving a cave with his party. Not knowing how to cross a gap, he tossed his hat to the ground in frustration leading to a surge of desperate magic spreading throughout the area.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, the size of the pit increases by 5 feet for each slot level above 2nd.
