You inflict a waking nightmare upon one creature of your choice within range, causing terrible emotional pain. The target must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, it takes 3d6 psychic damage and is stunned until the end of its next turn. On a successful save, the target takes half as much damage and does not become stunned.

Other nearby creatures can hear bits and pieces of the target's hallucination. These are usually perceived as a jumble of whispering voices, hence the spell's name.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the damage increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 1st.
