As a bonus action you can expend one of your charged essence runes to inscribe a rune on an object, creature, or other surface. The rune must fit within a 1 by 1 feet area and can be either visible or invisible. An arcane rune can be removed by the caster at any time by touching the rune as a bonus action. a arcane rune is also removed when it is activated. You can inscribe a number of runes equal to your 1 + your character level.
If you inscribe a rune on a creature you can activate it at will (no action required). When you activate the rune the creature takes 1d12 force or psychic damage (your choice). To inscribe a rune on a unwilling creature you must make a succesful melee spell attack against the creature.
If you inscribe a rune upon an object, for example a book, map or scroll. You can set a trigger to activate the rune, for example when a creature reads the content of the scroll. When the rune is activated any creature within a 5-foot radius of the rune must succeed on a Intelligence saving throw or take 1d12 force or psychic damage (your choice). When a rune is activated in this way, you receive a mental ping alerting you of the runes activation.
This spell's damage increases by 1d12 when you reach 5th level (2d12), 11th level (3d12) and 17th level (4d12)
