You place an invisible tracker on your target, bonding your souls together. The target must make a CHA saving throw; on a success, the spell dissipates into nothing and the target is aware that you tried to place some sort of spell on it, though not the specifics. As long as the spell lasts, you know what direction the target is in, and if they are moving, what direction they're moving in. By taking a minute to concentrate, you can determine exactly where the target is, so long as the two of you are on the same plane of existence. (If you are not familiar with your target's surroundings, this will manifest in a general sense of where they are - i.e. "300 miles to the north, surrounded by mountains," as opposed to "in the dungeons of Waterdeep".) If your target is on a different plane of existence, you know which one, though not their exact location. If they are on a different plane of existence and you plane shift to that plane, you may use a bonus action to 're-attune' to the spell, after which you may continue to use it as normal, though doing so will briefly give the target the sensation that they are being watched.
Once per day, you may use a reaction or bonus action to cause the target to fail a saving throw, so long as you are aware, or have reason to believe, that they are making a saving throw at that time.
You may only have one such spell active at a time. You may dismiss the spell at any time; otherwise, it can only be dispelled by a Wish spell, or by Dispel Magic, Remove Curse, or similar spells, so long as they are cast at 9th level. The death of the target does not automatically end the spell, though you are aware of it any time the target drops to 0 HP. An Amulet of Proof Against Detection and Location or similar item can keep the spell from taking effect, if the target is wearing it when the spell is cast, but does not block the spell's tracking abilities if it is put on after the spell has already been cast.
