Coils of shadow descend in a 5-foot-radius, 40-foot-high cylinder centered on a point within range. Until the spell ends, bright light within the cylinder becomes dim light.
When a creature enters the spell’s area for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there, its vitality is sapped by the dark magic, and it is forced to make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, it takes 3d6 necrotic damage, and you regain hit points equal to half the damage dealt. On a successful save, it takes half as much damage, and you do not regain hit points.
On each of your turns after you cast this spell, you can use an action to move the beam up to 60 feet in any direction.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the damage increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 3rd.
