Yes now you can see what your short sword thinks about you. Now you don't have to say imagine the stories this could tell if it could talk, you can make it talk by using this spell. Glorious. All you have to do is use this spell, touch one willing object, and it becomes sentient for 15 minutes! Oh goodness gosh, why didn't anybody think of this before, there's no way this could be exploited to find out which direction the villain went.
