You touch a target and imbue it with some of the persuasiveness and trickery of a devil. While Devil's Trickery is active, the target gains the following benefits:

  • They have advantage on persuasion and deception checks.
  • Insight checks against them have disadvantage.
  • They can cast the spell suggestion, once, without using a spell slot. In addition, if they are spellcasters with 2nd or higher level spell slots, then suggestion is temporarily added to their spell list.
  • Humanoids with immunity to the charmed condition temporarily lose that immunity while within 30 feet of you.

When you cast this spell, the devil's magic may temporarily alter your appearance. Roll a D4 and consult the following table, these changes to your appearance last as long as Devil's Trickery does. It is up to the DM how various NPC's react to this effect if they notice it. An NPC who notices the characters change to appearance and succeeds on a DC 15 Intelligence (arcana or religion) check may recognize this effect as a devil's mark. Either way, they will almost certainly think something strange of it ("Why do you have a tail, Bob?).

D4

Effect

1

You grow a tiny, quarter inch long, red tail. Shorts or pants can easily cover this tail up.

2

You grow tiny horns. These horns can easily be hidden by hair or a hat.

3

Symbols of various Archdevils and the message “Devil's Deceit” suddenly appear, like tattoos, on your arm. These tattoos can be covered by wearing long sleeves.

4

Your appearance is not changed in any way.

At higher levels. If this spell is cast using a spell slot of fourth level or greater, you can dictate the result of the roll on the table. Instead of rolling, just choose whether it's a 1, 2, 3, or 4.
