For the duration of this spell, whenever you are hit by a spell attack from a spell or subjected to a saving throw from one, you can absorb some of the spell's energy. When you cast this spell, roll 1d4 + 5. The result is called your "Absorption Count" and it represents the number of spell levels that you can absorb.
When you absorb a spell, you are still subjected to its effects as usual, but you gain a spell slot of a level equal to the level of the absorbed spell up to a maximum of the level at which you cast absorption. You then subtract the level of the spell slot gained from your Absorption count. If a spell cast on you would subtract your Absorption Count below 0, you instead gain a spell slot of a level equal to your Absorption Count.
Spell slots gained through this spell can be used only to cast spells. When this spell ends, all spell slots gained from it are lost at the end of your next turn.
The spell ends when your Absorption Count falls to 0.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a 5th level slot or higher, your Absorption Count increases by 2 for every slot level above 4th.
