The ground in a 20-foot radius centered on a point within range becomes a shallow pool of thick, soupy blood, with thin blackened tentacles erupting out of it. The area becomes difficult terrain for the duration. When a creature enters the area (including when the spell is cast) or starts its turn there, it must make a Strength saving throw. On a failed save, the creature takes 2d6 slashing damage and is restrained until the start of its next turn. On a successful save, it takes half damage and is not restrained.
When a creature moves within the area, it takes 2d6 necrotic damage for every 5 feet it travels.
And any creature that ends its turn in the area must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, it cannot take reactions until its next turn. On a successful save, it suffers no effects.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 5th level or higher, the any damage increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 4th.
