Appraise

Useful for verifying large bounties without counting each coin, you touch a container and sense an exact quantity of the monetary currency within. The base usage of this spell does not reveal non-coin valuables or equipment, or any presence of magic on the items contained.

The spell can penetrate most containers, but it is blocked by 6 inches of stone, 1 inch of common metal, a thin sheet of lead, or 1 foot of wood or dirt.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, it also reveals non-magical equipment or valuable items' fair trade worth:
"The chest contains 15 gp, 234 sp, 62 cp. You also detect two items worth 160 gp total."

When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3nd level or higher, it also reveals non-magical equipment and valuable items' specific nature:
"The chest contains 15 gp, 234 sp, 62 cp. You also detect a sword and a painting worth 160 gp total."

When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, it also reveals any presence of magical items:
"The chest contains 15 gp, 234 sp, 62 cp. You also detect a sword and a painting worth 160 gp total. You also detect a magical item."
