You create a subtle, repeating melody that attempts to drive itself into the mind a humanoid within range. The target must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, it takes 2d6 psychic damage as the melody takes root. On each of your following turns, you can use an action to continue to build the melody as it grows louder inside the mind of the target, otherwise the spell ends. On the 2nd turn the target takes 2d8 damage and they are unable to use their reaction until the spell ends. On the 3rd turn and onward, the melody is an agonizing cacophony driving the target to madness. The damage increases to 2d12 and the target drops anything they are holding in their hands and are stunned as they attempt to cover their ears and scream out in pain. By this point, the melody is audible to creatures within 30 feet of the target but causes none of the effects or damage to them.
At the end of each of its turns, and each time it takes damage, the target can make another Wisdom saving throw. The target has advantage on the saving throw if it's triggered by damage. On a success, the spell ends. A deafened creature automatically succeeds on the save.
