Damage/Effect

You command a dead creature to rise and obey you for a short time, abiding your will before collapsing back into a lifeless state.

Choose a corpse or pile of bones from a medium or smaller humanoid within range. For the duration of the spell, it resurrects as a Zombie or Skeleton respectively, and takes a "turn" in place of your own, obeying your commands. It can move up to 20 feet, but can't move farther away from you than the range of the cantrip. It can take an action, as well as carrying out other miscellaneous non-action tasks such as activating switches, or tossing items. If the target is wielding or picks up a weapon, it may attack with it. Otherwise, it makes an unarmed/slam attack as a Zombie and an unarmed attack as a Skeleton, assuming it has no more practical means of attacking without a weapon, such as horns or claws. Whenever the creature lands an attack for the duration of the spell, it deals an additional 1d6 necrotic damage.

If told to take an action, it fulfills its duty and returns to a prone and inert state at the end of its "turn," unless you concentrate on the spell further so as to maintain a continual effect such as a grappling or holding something in position. Otherwise, it becomes prone and inert at the beginning of your next turn, or after its reaction is triggered.

At 5th level, 9th level, 13th level, and 17th level, this spell's range is increased by 20 feet, and the additional necrotic damage the undead deals on damage rolls is increased by 1d6.

Starting at 5th level, the undead can make two attacks instead of one when it takes the Attack action.
