Pre-requisite: a familiar
Lightning arcs between you and your familiar to deliver a strong shock to a creature you both try to touch.
When you cast this spell, you and your familiar simultaneously make a melee spell attack against a single target using your spell attack modifier. To account for the fact that you and your familiar must hit, you make the melee spell attack with disadvantage. The disadvantage is negated if the target is wearing armor made of metal or if you have another effect such as True Strike active. If the target is wearing armor made of metal and you have another effect granting advantage, then the attack is made at advantage. Conversely, if there is an effect such as the target using the Dodge action that causes disadvantage and no other effect to negate that disadvantage (thus giving the spell attack double disadvantage) then it automatically fails.
On a hit, the target takes 3d8 lightning damage and it can’t take reactions until the start of its next turn.
The use of this spell also prevents your familiar from taking an action or bonus action on its next turn, but it does not prevent your familiar from movement on its turn.
At higher levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, the damage increases by 1d8 for each slot level above 2nd.
