You release a barrage of deadly strings upon your target. The target takes 10d10 piercing damage. Any target killed by this spell is now under your control, as the string inside of its body control it like a puppet. The puppet lasts as long as the strings do, typically one or two months, however doing strenuos activities and swimming can significantly reduce this time. The controlled creature is considered a construct, is immune to psychic and poison damage, and its intelligence, wisdom, and charisma are all equal to yours.

Maybe could use finger of death as reference, it is a 7th level spell with 60ft range, 7d8 + 30 damage and constitution save for half damage, also, it has a similar side effect of turning the target in a puppet.
Comparing with a 6th level spell, 1000ft range and 10d10 without any save, I would say a few changes would be needed to make it applicable in a regular 5e campaign though.
An example could be:
8th level
1000ft range (a very very high range, need to reduce damage)
8d8, dex save for half damage
Or if you want to keep the 6th level:
1000ft range but only if you know the target name (similar concept to Psychic Lance)
6d6, dex save for half damage
Not sure it helps or even if those examples are well balanced, just guessing here.
