Enchant one small round object into a throw-able smoke bomb that fills a small room (1,000 cu ft) with a thick black smoke that is impossible to see through. The smoke emanates from the object with a hissing sound, and the room fills in 5 seconds. The color of the smoke can be changed to match a situation, but it must be done before the object is thrown, and will only be a solid color. Once thrown, flip 1d2. On heads, the smoke fully fills the room; on tails, it sort of stays in the center, like ink dripped into water but not stirred. If strong light (direct sunlight, any light focused through a lens, or a magically created light) shines into it, it refracts like sunlight shining into smoke. This happens regardless of the success of the d2.
At Level 3: No longer flip a d2: room now always fills with the smoke. Only magically created light refracts. Size of room increases to 8,000 cu ft. Duration increases to 10 minutes.
At Level 5: Smoke can now have up to 4 different colors. It cannot be formed into any specific shape, and is basically 3 dimensional camouflage in the style of traditional camouflage. Size of room increases to 64,000 cu ft (40'x40'x40') Duration increases to 30 minutes.
At Level 7: The camouflage is now 6 different colors, and in the modern, digital camouflage style. Color can be changed on the fly. Size increases to 216,000 (60'x60'x60'); Duration increases to 60 minutes.
At Level 9: The smoke can now be 10 different colors and be formed into a specific image that the caster can see. Image cannot move, but can be different depending on viewing angle, like a hologram. Size of room increases to 1,000,000 (100'x100'x100'). Spell lasts until caster calls it off.
Spell can be learned by any magic class, but if attached to a scroll, any class can utilize it, regardless of magic aptitude
Bonus to stealth in the form of the average of 2d6 for as long as the smoke is between the player and the "noticer". Stealth becomes +1 if the "noticer" successfully notices that the smoke screen is there, and -1 if they notice the smoke screen being deployed. (Wow, I said notice a lot here!)
Any party member standing in the center of the smoke can see out of it almost normally, as if looking out through gauze or a screen. But if thrown at an opponent, or non-party member, they will be blinded. If a non party member breathes in the smoke, they will become nauseous due to the fumes and bad smell. They have a -1 to ranged attack and -2 to melee attacks, and must make a const. saving check to not vomit. If failed, the target vomits, falls prone, and stays prone for one round, or 5 minutes. Allies of a party, those disguised as a party member, or someone pretending to be a party member (ie actually working against them) are treated as a party member. Likewise, Allies of enemies, party members disguised or pretending not to be will be treated as non-party members.
(This is not a campaign item, at all. I really just wanted a way to give rogues a little bit of a boost, magically! PS Bonnet Pall is Thieve's Cant (which is a real language!) which translates: bonnet means concealment or pretext, and pall means accomplice, so Bonnet Pall is some pig-Cant that roughly means "An accomplice that conceals"!)
