You need to cast this spell on an intact, non-magical and closed door, you can see within range, that has an intact doorframe. The door and its frame become indestructible by any means other than a Wish spell. If the door is opened during the casting of the spell, the spell is interrupted and has to be cast again, however you do not loose any of the components or expend the spell slot used for the casting of this spell. Once you open the door after the spell is finished, the doorway appears as a non-transparent vortex of light of a color of your choosing, which emits bright light in a 10 ft radius and dim light for an additional 10 ft.
At all times you can designate which creatures are allowed to step through this portal. You may also specifically choose creatures to be bannished from entering the portal, in which case a bannished creature, that tries to enter the portal, has to succeed on a constitution saving throw or be pushed 20 feet away from the door, knocked prone and take 5d10 force damage. On a successful save the creature is only pushed 10 feet away, isn't knocked prone and only takes half of the damage. Creatures that are neither allowed to enter nor bannished simply can't enter. The doorway is impassable to them.
When first casting this spell, you create your planar home, a demiplane. The demiplane is of a design you choose and can be as big as a 5 kilometer (about 3.1 miles) cube. The design can by anything, from a gargantuan cavern with an underground town and castle, up to a gigantic ship seemingly floating through the astral sea. If you are able to think it, it can be created, including full furnishings, a working flora and fauna, an unlimited scource of food and a variety of dimensional doors that connect two places on the demiplane as long as they are not further than 500 feet apart.
The demiplane can be home to up to 200 servants, which can be of celestial, fey or fiendish origin. You decide the visual appearance of these servants and their attire. They are completely obedient to your orders. Each servant can perform any task a normal human servant could perform, but they can’t attack or take any action that would directly harm another creature. Thus the servants can fetch things, clean, mend, fold clothes, light fires, serve food, pour wine, and so on. The servants can go anywhere on the demiplane but can’t leave it. Additionally you cannot remove any objects from the demiplane, excluding food if it has already been eaten.
Time moves at the same speed on the demiplane as on the material plane, however you can adjust the relativity of time between your planar home and the material plane whenever you are present at your planar home. The movement of time can only be sped up or slowed down by a factor of up to 24, resulting in a maximum time relation of "1 hour = 1 day" in either direction.
You are also able to change how the laws of physics work within your Planar Home. The entire demiplane could work similarly to the Astral Sea for example, meaning that anyone could move in any direction at a speed equal to three times their intelligence score. Other changes to laws of physics are also possible at your DMs disgression.
Once you have created a demiplane in this way, you can cast this spell again to achieve one or multiple of the following effects. Casting the spell in this way does not require the usual components the spell requires, unless otherwise noted.
- You change the layout and design of your demiplane, however you cannot use the spell in this way to completely remake your planar home. You are able to make adjustments to the demiplane, like changing the appearance, shape or layout of structures, swapping certain structures or change the placement of the portal inside the demiplane. While casting the spell to achive this effect, time in the demiplane momentarily freezes and unfreezes again once the spell is finished and the changes have been made. Creatures on the demiplane gain the effect of the Etherealness spell and are frozen in place for the casting time but don't take any force damage if they collide with a solid object once they return to the demiplane.
- You connect another door, that has to meet the same requirements as mentioned in the description of this spell before, to your planar home. If you connect a door in this way you choose a place on your planar home where the new portal appears.
- You disconnect a door from your planar home which causes the corresponding portal on the demiplane to vanish. A door that has been disconnected from your planar home cannot be reconnected to it for a week. If all doors are disconnected from your planar home the demiplane remains the way it is and you are still able to enter through other means, such as the Demiplane spell.
- You expand your planar home. Casting the spell to achieve this effect consumes an amount of gems worth 10,000 gold per kilometer cube. You can increase the size of your planar home by up to 4 kilometer cubes in one casting. You can also create new structures and creatures on your planar home if you're casting the spell in this way. You may create 40 additional servants of the same nature as described earlier in this spell for every 10,000 gold worth of gems.
- You destroy your planar home. The demiplane is wiped from existence including everything that was created on it with this spell. Creatures and objects on the demiplane, that did not originally belong there are transported out of the demiplane through the oldest, accessible door. If all doors have been disconnected from your planar home, all objects and creatures on the demiplane, that did not originally belong there are scattered across the astral sea.
Your planar home will keep existing even if you die. Your soul is connected to your planar home and when creating it you can choose to have an indestructible arcane focus on the demiplane. If you die, your soul is transfered into the arcane focus. You can still be brought back to life by normal means, such as the Revivify spell, however while your soul remains inside the arcane focus you are able to communicate with the servants at your planar home. You can be brought back to life within your planar home by the means of a Resurrection spell even if your body is not present. Bringing you back to life in this way destroys any remains of your original body as well as the arcane focus and you have to cast this spell again and spend 5,000 gold worth of gems to recreate the arcane focus.
Casting this spell for the first time and expanding the space of your planar home is an ordeal. When you cast this spell to create your planar home you gain two points of exhaustion and are not able to cast spells of sixth level or higher until you finish a long rest. When you cast this spell to expand your planar home you gain one point of exhaustion and are not able to cast spells of a level determined by (9 - every kilometer cube you increased the demiplane by) or higher. For example if you expand your planar home by 2 kilometer cubes you are not able to cast spells of 7th level or higher until you finish a long rest.
