You create three etheral venomous vipers and hurl them at targets within range. You can hurl them at one target or several.

For each viper, the respective target has to make a dexterity save, and take 1d10 poison damage on a failed save, half damage when saved. On a failed save, the vipers will also latch to the respective target. At the end of each turn you're concentrating, each viper deals 1d10 poison damage to the target they've latched on to. When a target dies, you may have any vipers attached to them target an enemy within 5 feet of the target. If they fail a dexterity save, the vipers latch onto them.

Each target may repeat the dexterity save at the end of their turns to try and remove the vipers. Only one viper per turn may be removed this way. A target may also spend their action to make a dexterity save against this effect to remove all of the vipers attached to them at once.

Protection from Poison will prevent Vipers from latching onto a target, and if cast on an affected target, the vipers will immediately vanish.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, you create one additional viper for each slot level above 2nd.
