This spell will allow the caster to divine the nature of spells cast in an area, spells cast on a person or item and the type of Spell Caster who cast the spells being investigated.
While casting this spell the spell caster must roll an Arcana Check DC 12 +1 per level over 3. Thus investigating a level 5 spell will take an Arcana roll DC 14, and a level 9 spell will require a DC 21. By expending a higher level spell slot the caster can reduce the DC of the spell investigated by a point per level over 3.
With a successful roll the caster may determine 1 thing for every point of Proficiency the Caster has:
1 Time of death of a corpse that was killed by magic.
2 What spells were cast in an area for the last 72 hours and time of Spells Cast. (If the Investigator has an 18 or higher in INT then this time frame is an additional 24 hours back per point.)
3 Type of Spell Caster who cast the spells. If multi class caster this is not reveled, the information gleaned will be that the caster was a type of what ever spell list the spell was cast from.
4 Where the spell caster was standing when the spell was cast.
5 Approximate level of Spell Caster. Level 1-3 Basic, Level 4-7 Competent, Level 8-11 Skilled, Level 12-15 Master, Level 16-20 Legendary.
6 Species of the Spell Caster. This spell will not however determine subspecies. You can determine an Elf cast the spell, but not that a Forest Elf cast the spell.
7 Material Components used in the spells.
8 If the spell was cast via an object or from a spell casters memory. If cast from an item if with was cast via a scroll, wand or other item, this can be determined with a second Arcana roll goal of 15.
