If there is a chance a party member could die within the time limit, roll a d4. If you roll a 3 or 4, they survive by dodging the attack. If not it takes 2 from their saving roles. A risky move but if you have luck you keep a teammate alive.

When level 9 it is only a 1 on a d4 that allows them to die.
