You infuse a staff or other spellcasting tool with arcane power and launch it forward up to 60ft in a straight line. Any targets it passes through must make a dexterity saving throw or take 3d8 piercing damage as the lance passes through them. Upon reaching its maximum range the lance will hover in place for the duration, alternatively, if the lance strikes a nonliving object which it cannot break through it will remain lodged in the material until recalled. On subsequent turns you may use a bonus action to cause the lance to return to you, all targets in its path must repeat the saving throw or take 3d8 piercing damage. 

At higher levels the damage increases by 1d8 for each spell slot level above 2nd.
