Help from your heavenly patron comes to you in battle.
Once per round, when a creature hits you with a melee attack, a protective pulse of radiant energy flashes in all directions like a quick wave. Any creatures hostile toward you within a 10ft radius sphere (centered on you) take 1d6 radiant damage.
This pulse partially deflects the energy of the attack against you. Subtract the protective pulse's total radiant damage from the damage you would normally receive from the triggering attack.
This spell is initiated as a free reaction once per round. After that, you may use your reaction to cast it again in the same round. Example: If a creature hits you with two melee attacks during it's turn, you benefit from this protective pulse as a response to only the first of those two attacks. But, if two creatures attack & hit you (once each) within a round, you apply this spell as a free reaction to one attack by the first creature and then you may apply it to the second attack that hits you as your reaction.
In addition, you may invoke celestial protection as a free reaction to one attack of opportunity that hits you, per round. Thus, this spell could be invoked a maximum of three times in a round, but may only be applied once per character turn within that round.
The first use of this spell in a round is initiated on your character’s behalf via divine intervention. However, you, the player, are solely responsible for declaring celestial protection at the appropriate moments in-game (and for rolling the damage dice indicated according to your character level).
At your DM’s discretion: In accordance with the storyline, warlocks who fall significantly out of favor with your celestial patron may potentially lose this protection from their patron.
This spell is available only to Warlocks in a pact with the Celestial and Sorcerers of Divine Soul. It must be selected as one of your known cantrips.
At higher levels, you increase the damage dice: 4 (2d6), 8 (3d6), 12 (4d6), 16 (5d6).
