"Adrenaline Surge"
5th-level Abjuration
Casting Time: Reaction Range: Self or 1 willing creature within 120 feet Components: V, Duration: up to 5 rounds of combat
When a party member within range is about to be knocked unconscious or killed by an attack, you can cast Adrenaline Surge as a reaction. This spell floods the recipient's body with a surge of adrenaline, allowing them to ignore the damage for the moment and retaliate with a powerful strike. The recipient gains temporary hit points equal to their maximum hit points, becomes resistant to all damage, and is immune to the stunned condition.
For the next 5 rounds, the recipient can take an additional action on each of their turns, which can be used to attack or take any other action they are capable of. At the end of the spell's duration, the recipient takes all the damage they would have taken during the spell's duration, and if this damage reduces them to 0 hit points, they immediately fall unconscious and suffer 2 failed death saving throws.
The recipient will require at least a 3rd-level healing spell to be stabilized, or a 5th-level healing spell to wake them up. Normal means of stabilization will not be viable. If they are stabilized, they will awaken in 1D8 days with 3rd-level exhaustion. If woken up they will only be set to 5 hp and will have 5th-level exhaustion.
(4th-Level healing will be a mix between 3rd and 5th level healing. This factor is up to DM's discretion.)
(For every spell slot used above the 5th level the duration goes up 1 round as well as reducing days to recover and exhaustion levels. Ex. At the 6th level, the spell will last for 6 rounds, if stabilized they will wake up in 1d6 days with 2nd-level exhaustion. The minimum time to wake up is 1d2 days with level 1 exhaustion.)
(Undying Warlock subclass has a few changes. Spell range is only self, But is automatically cast as if 1 spell slot higher.)
This spell is particularly useful in dire situations where a party member is at risk of death, but it carries significant risks as well. Use it wisely, and only when the situation truly demands it.
