You create a magical mist that surrounds an area you designate. The mist has two primary effects: it protects the area from divination magic, and it reduces visibility as if those inside were in complete darkness. Natural sources of light reduce the fog's turbidity, but do not remove it entirely.

Entry and exit from the wardmist is never inhibited, but creatures without a ward token perceive the mist as a thick fog that impedes their vision. Those who carry a ward token, a stamped emblem of metal specified upon casting, can see through the mist and are not affected by its turbidity. The specifications of these tokens are set at the spell's casting but can be produced freely afterward.

Any creature without a ward token who enters or lingers in the affected area is seen as an intruder by the wardmist's magic. The caster is alerted by a light or noise radiating from within the mist, and any contingencies or spell triggers linked to the spell are activated. These triggers can provide extra protection for the area, per the caster's specifications.

Undead guardians can be linked to the affected area upon casting, being released from a stasis when intruders enter or linger in the area of the mist. These guardians include zombies, skeletons, bonebats, watchghosts, wraiths, blazing bones, helmed horrors, or baneguards.

If dispel magic is cast within the wardmist, it increases visibility within the affected area. The only way to destroy the effects of the spell is through use of a wish spell.
