The whip you are holding is imbued with magical power. For the duration, the whip has the following properties:
- You can use your spellcasting ability instead of Strength or Dexterity for the attack and damage rolls of melee attacks using that weapon.
- The weapon's damage die becomes a d6.
- The weapon becomes magical, if it isn't already.
- As a bonus action, you can make a special attack with the whip. When you hit with an attack using a whip, instead of dealing damage you can pull on the whip to trip a Large or smaller creature. The target must make a Strength saving throw. On a failed save, you knock the target prone.
- You can use your action to make a controlled maneuver with the whip. You can use the whip to manipulate an object, open an unlocked door or container, or retrieve an item from an open container. If the object is being held by a creature, it must make a Strength saving throw. On a failed save, the target loses grip on the item. An item retrieved this way can be grabbed if you have an available hand, or else it falls in your space.
The spell ends if you cast it again or if you let go of the weapon.
This spell improves when you reach certain levels. At 5th level, the weapon's damage die increases to a d8, at 11th level to a d10 and again at 17th level to a d12.
